Week 5
Another week in the books! This week we had posters, shirts and business cards made and ready to go for the People’s Townhall Protest outside of Jay Obernolte’s office in Hesperia. My team and I made sure to show up with a presence. If we are going to take back the House and make sure the voices of the people are heard, we need to start now. I spoke at the Big Bear Democratic Club meeting in Big Bear on Thursday and saw, for the first time, the devastation left behind from the Line Fire. We need to be protecting our land and our federal work force, including wildland firefighters. The current incumbent spent that fire at Mar-a-Lago with Trump rather than with the people impacted by this fire. We deserve better representation and I aim to be just that.
Week 4
It is hard for me to believe that we are already one month into this campaign! Week 4 has focused heavily on fundraising and preparing for the rally in Hesperia on Saturday April 5th. The fundraising platform is completely updated now! We also have merch for the volunteers that are attending the rally in support of me and my campaign. Please come out if you are in the area and free on the 5th from 12-2pm. I also have been busy drafting my speech for the Big Bear Democratic Club meeting on Thursday April 3rd. I will be at the Elks Lodge in Big Bear at 6pm for any locals that want to come by! On Saturday March 30th I spent 6 hours at the Wrightwood CSD Strategic Planning meeting where we, the board, were able to come up with a clear vision for the future of our community. After the meeting, I received an inspiring email thanking me for my leadership and my ability to facilitate the discussion and conversation. Big things are happening for this campaign and for our communities. It is time to be the change we want to see and to lead with empathy!
Week 3
Week three was BUSY! I had a few events come across my feed so there are more opportunities to meet me and ask questions. On Thursday, I went to the High Desert Pride Center’s fundraiser for the intergenerational prom they are hosting. At this dinner, I was able to connect with other folks that hold office in our community as well as supporting a cause I believe in wholeheartedly. On Saturday, I started my day in Twentynine Palms connecting with community leaders and getting to know the other communities in district 23. After meeting with community leaders, I attended a rally for Chuckwalla National Monument in Palm Springs. I was not there to campaign, I was there as someone who cares deeply for our federal workers and our public lands. Towards the end of the rally, I was interviewed for NBC Palm Springs as well as the European Public Channel ARTE. On Sunday, my campaign manager and I met with my new Director of Fundraising to brainstorm ideas to bring in donations and to make sure we are coming across as a serious campaign running against someone who receives most of his donations from corporations and individuals with deep pockets. In order to take big money out of politics, we have to be in the community as much as possible so stay tuned for more events to come!
Week 2
This week, I met with someone from Joshua Tree who has come onboard as my Volunteer Coordinator. Anyone interested in volunteering for my campaign will be directed to Dave so that he can see where their skills will be most useful! I joined Women 4 Women live on TikTok on Tuesday to talk about my decision to run and how others can do what I am doing. The fundraising is the biggest hurdle at this point but I am working with folks to launch that in full force. I met with the person who ran in the last two election cycles against the incumbent to discuss the strategy with three qualified candidates running in this primary. I officially registered with the FEC and am now able to accept donations so please, as you are able, click the donate now link to donate to my campaign! Finally, I went to the registrar of voters for all three counties that are in CA-District 23 to get the precinct breakdown so that I am able to better plan my outreach efforts. Week 2 was busy and I anticipate it only going up from here! Check out my upcoming events and virtual townhalls to connect with me or sign up for our newsletter!
Week 1
This is the first of many weekly updates. I want to run a transparent campaign and am going to be giving weekly updates about what has happened. During the week of March 3rd, I had professional photos taken to allow this website to happen. Shoutout to Dassi! I also went to Hesperia Civic Plaza Park and met with some of the voters in District 23 to ask what the biggest concerns they had were. The overwhelming majority shared that high taxes and lack of job opportunities were the two biggest issues facing this district. As someone that lives in the High Desert and commutes to San Bernardino for work, I understand the struggle of the 15 freeway during rush hour. Economic growth is something I want to see across the district and I plan to introduce legislation that closes corporate tax loopholes so those of us in the working class aren’t paying more in taxes than corporations bringing in billions of dollars in revenue. On Wednesday, I did my first official interview for the Invisible Not Broken podcast and will update y’all when it is live! I am also working on building a coalition to encourage other non-politicians to run for office. I believe we are ready for a change and ready for representation by people rather than career politicians. We the people for the people!
